How much should you pay per hour for a gardener? Just someone to mow the lawns, trim the bushes plant some bulbs etc? I was thinking in the region of £8 an hour?

The price you pay depends on the area in which you live and also the quality of gardener who you wish to employ. I live near Blackpool and the rate varies from around £8 to a top price of £18! £8 would be for a retired person with limited equipment (O.k for basic tasks such as you might want) and £14-18 would get a fully trained, insured and experienced gardener. Hope this is of help.

I think there is a distinction between handyman and gardener.
I recently got quotes for some household work from a local handyman (who does some gardening, decorating, buildng, plumbing and electrical work, but isn't specialist in any of them) and his rates were closer to £25 an hour, yet he says most of his work is garden based at this time of year.
Now that surprised me as I might pay £25 an hour for someone to fix my leaky roof or repair my back door but not to cut my grass!
He was also booked up for nearly two months in advance, so people were paying that rate.
Why pay for an architect when a draftsman will do?

If he is booked that far in advance it generally means he is good at his work otherwise wouldn't be so busy!!! Bite the bullet, pay the price
