I have just joined a N.H.S. practice, had an estimate for a few fillings etc. plus a 2 tooth bridge, I was informed that the cost would be £15.90, for check etc. (which I paid) and then £43.60 for my next treatment, plus about £500.00 for the bridge, as the N.H.S. "will only pay for the cheapest solution". Is this correct? am I being ripped? or, is this normal?

Assuming you may have had the treatment done now.. you weren't ripped off!
Bridges are classed as cosmetic dentistry which the NHS doesn't cover!
You say you were charged 15.90 for the check-up and 43.60 for the fillings.. hopefully you only paid 43.60 as the 15.90 checkup should have been included in the 43.60 price [as set by the NHS!!!!] so if you were charged 15.90 AND 43.60 seperately.. I'd go have a word!
Also compared to some private dentist [the one I work for included] £500 for a two unit bridge is below average!!!
