I am undergoing treatment with a new (private)dentist who assessed my needs and she said treatment would cost around £6000 of which I had to pay half upfront.
She said I needed 4 extractions at the back (my teeth were mobile with infections underneath). Then a couple of repairs to cracked and filled teeth. I also need a new partial upper denture and possibly a lower one as I have no back teeth now and no teeth to support a bridge.
I wasn't  given a breakdown of prices at the beginning and felt rather vulnerable and agreed to start the treatment.
I've had a couple of xrays, 4 extractions and two partial fillings, and now the new upper partial denture is next. I've since had to pay another £1000 (lab fees apparently) and just feel this is all rather expensive with no real detail of costs involved being laid out.
Does it sound realistic to you and how can I ask for a breakdown of prices without sounding as if i dont trust her. She seems a nice genuine person and is very gentle and thorough.

Good morning Olive,

Sounds an awful lot of money for the work. Taking a rough view on our average figures.

4 extractions, assuming say wisdom teeth type cost 4 x £200 = £800

2 repairs, assume large fillings, 2 x £125 = £250 (if require crowns then could be £800)

2 bridges, assume full, 2 x £600 = £1200

Total estimate on these figures £2250-£2800.

Maybe a dentist could comment but £6000 seems like a huge amount!

If you were getting any other job done for £6k you would want a quote showing where the money is going, it is not unreasonable. Especially as this is a new dentist to you and you have no idea what they are really like - nice appearance aside.

Anyone else got some comments?
