Over the years I have had 4 root canals as a result of an abscess. One resulted in a bridge at the back. £1800 was the cost, as I go to a very good private dentist. A temporary bridge was fitted immediately after extraction and my permanent bridge, 3 days later. Very sore and painful but absolutely no problems whatsoever. The treatment was administered much quicker than normal with no healing time and that was 4 years ago and still it's perfect. I sing in a band so my teeth are very important to me. I hasten to add that I have always looked after my teeth and visited regularly but my parents and sybllings all have the same problems I do. I was NHS before going private and it was my NHS dentist that never sent me to the hygienist or did anything other than basic treatment, filling and filling my teeth. When I went private, I had 4+ gums at the age of 34. I am now 39 and they are between 1 and at times 2/3. Apart from the bridge I needed, the other 2 root canals took brilliantly, but not the tooth I am currently struggling with. Since my dentist and hygienist have worked on my teeth but mainly my gums, one of my front teeth has twisted. Some teeth have moved. Is this why I am prone to abscesses? Anyway, what I am asking really is, I have a recurring abscess, 4th tooth to the right which is completely visible when I smile. It has a root canal and the underlying abscess that keeps erupting under that tooth means that it's time to come out. As a tooth next to it is weak, I need a 4 tooth bridge. At this time I can not afford the £3000 it will cost me and I am so worried about a huge gap when I smile and sing that it seems the only alternative but I can't afford it. Should I leave my dentist who has been so good with me and go back to NHS? If I do, what are the costs and will I receive a bridge that looks like my real teeth? An implant I believe is not an option because of my previous gum problems. My goodness do I waffle and apologise for so much content x

You need to establish whether it is a clincal need. Then you have a chance with the NHS to get it done for £198

But I cannot see any dentist wanting to do for less than what you have been quoted.
