Can anyone help with my enquiry?  I have a 16mm polycarbonate roof on my conservatory and have read here somewhere that 35mm is much more efficient thermally.  Could I remove the old roof and replace it?  Or bolt an extra layer ontop? Any ideas of cost or sourcing just the polycarbonate roof?
many thanks.

High jenan

I woul dthink it would be a lot of hassle to modify the roof to have a thicker carbonate layer! I've done some research and yes a 35mm roof loses about 1/2 the amount of heat per hour compared to a 16mm roof (strangely a 25mm roof is almost as good as a 35mm one, probably due to diminishing returns on thermal insulation). However I would look at other easier areas to improve efficiency. What about foil back blinds? Or coatings on the glass itself. You might even be able to get a stick on coating for the roof as well. All sounds more pain free and cheaper than replacing the roof!

Depending on the roofing system, you may be able to just replace the polycarbonate sheets. Take a look at Truly Conservatory Repairs, they offer conservatory repairs and upgrades. Visit their website at www.trulyconservatoryrepairs.com where you can find out more and post question through their Conservatory Clinic.
