I am over 70 and had only eight teeth remaining(I have a denture). I . approached a local dentist because of pain. He looked took some x-rays, and then said he was referring me to the hospital as he was not happy with x-ray.
I attended hospital and they took x-rays and found nothing amiss.
I was advised the teeth remaining were in bad shape and needed to be removed.
An appointment was made and I had the teeth(eight) removed with local anasthetic. It took 30 minutes then I was allowed home.
The cost:  Nothing.
So it seems if you sent to hospital you may get urgent work done for nothing
