Free Dental Treatment as opposed to NHS - Any difference?

Hi,

I am a senior citizen in receipt of pension credits;according to the NHS price guide, entitles me to free dental treatment.

However, common sense tells me that most dentists are not going to be too happy taking me on, and no doubt I will only get the really basic service available. I'm desperate to have a new denture made and as some of you will know if a denture does not fit absolutely perfectly it can ruin your quality of life. I do have some money saved, do you think I should bite the bullet (if only I could  ) and pay as a NHS patient? What do you think I should do?

Hi, the treatment on  the nhs wether you pay or not is the same, the reason you wouldnt pay is your on benefits, if you wernt you would have to pay£198 and you would get exactly the same treatment. its down to the goverment subsidising your treatment.

The previous post is right, free and NHS are the same but if you do want good dentures then I am afraid you will need to pay privately as NHS dentures are made as cheaply and quickly as possible. You could look for a specialist technician to make them for you for much less than a dentist. Reckon about £400 from a technician or £800 + from a dentist.
